PROCEUDRE:

1. Meeting called to order at 2.27 PM byRanjan Agarwal, Chair
2. Alberta/McGill that the Agenda beapproved. PASSED.
3. Western Ontario/Ottawa that minutes ofthe 2000 Annual General Meeting be approved. PASSED.

REPORTS:

4. President’s Report:

a. Western Canada is stable; Atlantic Canada seems to be growing;Central Canada has less tournaments but good attendance.
b. St. Clair’s College has been approved as a Provisional Member.
C. CUSID will not raise the Worlds-style issue at 2001 WUDC unless itseems likely that change is possible; CUSID has been in contact with other federations regarding their position.
d. 2001 WUDC registration is closed and tickets should be bought soon; request has been made for a reception from the Canadian High Commission.
e. Nationals and North American Championship bids should be in place by McGill’s Winter Carnival in January.

5. Treasurer’s Report:

a. Proposed budget was reviewed
b. Efforts are being made to locate the current CUSID account and surplus (estimate: $2000)

6. Vice-President (Atlantic Canada)Report:

a. LMM tournament has ceased at UPEI
b. 25 teams from 3 schools registered for Atlantic Regional Debating Championships; expecting 40-50 teams
c. All other tournaments have been reduced to one-day debates
d. Travel costs continue to be prohibitive

7. Vice-President (Western Canada)Report:

a. Five schools in the West; implementing MOU on “Western-style” debate
b. Prospects of new schools in West does exist
c. Web-site is important to Western Canada

8. Director of French Language DebatingReport:

a. Jeux de Commerce has requested judges for their tournament in January
B. McGill, RMC and Ottawa have French wings in development
c. Very few French tournament prospects; no French tournaments scheduled

MOTIONS:

9. Ottawa/York That the budget be approved. PASSED.

a. there was a lengthy discussionregarding whether the cost of speaker trophies should be included in the current budget.

NEW BUSINESS:

10. Anadas Inc. has requested the appointment of a Director of Systems Administration to aid in maintenance ofthe website; the Executive will conduct a search in January for a suitable candidate if needed.

11. RMC/McMaster That CUSID takes responsibility for the Leger Cup, to be presented to the winners of the Central Canadian Debating Championships. PASSED.

ADJOURNMENT:

12. The meeting was adjourned at 3.25 PM.The next General Meeting is on January 20, 2001, at McGill University
